Song of the Day 48!!!

I am an avid Stumbleupon user and it helps me find some great sites, but a few weeks ago, it helped me find this. The song is called "Americanarama" by the band Hollerado. The video is very well done. Almost an OK GO style. I warn you though, you will get either parts of, or the whole song stuck in your head. Without further ado....ENJOY! By the way, this one is dedicated to Sariah! Whoo! Among one or two more New Years resolutions for myself, one is to update this at the very least once a month. I will try to target around twice a month. So yeah! See you in 2011! (There are lyrics below, but most of the lyrics are displayed in the video)

Hey Philadelphia, you used to exist
As a city in the North-East where the Power used to sit
There's no more Chicago, no
She went down with the last of the buffalo
Lordy Lordy, hey Lordy Lordy

Poor weak New Orleans, no
She went first and we didn't even hear her scream, no
Hey Lordy Lordy
Denver U.S.A
You came down from the top of the mountain
Bet you didn't count on becoming what you are today

Doot doot doo doot do doo Doot doot doot doot do doo
Lord I miss you
Doot doot doo doot do doo Doot doot doot doot do doo
Lord I miss you

Hey Philadelphia,
Hey Philadelphia, where'd you go?

Oh New York City, you're so pretty in the dark
When all your lights are gone out
We're camping out in Battery Park
Denver U.S.A.
You came down from the top of the mountain
Lordy Lordy, hey Lordy Lordy
Bet you didn't count on becoming what you are today

Doot doot doo doot do doo Doot doot doot doot do doo
Lord I miss you

Hey Philadelphia,
Hey Philadelphia, where'd you go?

Hey Philadelphia,
Hey Philadelphia,
Hey Philadelphia,
Hey Philadelphia,
Where'd you go?

Song of the Day 47!!!

This edition of SOTD is a great song coupled with a great video. The song is called "Symphonies" by Dan Black. The video is visually interesting and well done.It harkons back to movies in history. See if you can identify what movies it is parodying. The song itself, though, is very catchy. I find it gets stuck in my head quite easily. As you can tell by this list, I am a sucker for a good beat and a catchy tune. So, without further ado, enjoy!

(Lyrics are below, but half the lyrics are put on screen for you anyway)

I come disguised I was hypnotized
Lost a track, struggled back
I wanted easy stuff to please me
Something in the dark began to squeeze me
Seen it, there, then there in the mirror
Totally focused, no hocus pocus
Dare I give in to this thing gripping my skin
To win, thinking how to
As

The lights of the cars go by in a stream
Seems like I stand pretty much unseen
But I open my eyes and beams
Come out

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see
Score rise up
Angels play
Let my loneliness get blown away

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see

I lie down in the dust just under your eye
A scrap of paper, thin as vapour
Filling my clothes like smoke
A couple of the wires in my heart are broke
I float, I miss, something, nothing
But dreams, schemes, moments wasted
Taste I tasted
Fate I'm fated
Re-edited again then copy pasted
As

The lights of the cars go by in a stream
Seems like I stand pretty much unseen
But I open my eyes and beams
Come out

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see
Score rise up
Angels play
Let my loneliness get blown away

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see

When I wanna quit, I suffocate it
I chew bubblicious, stress repetitious
Vicious, I'm one outsider
Up above the streets on the DCY-er
Higher, fire in my guts
In a rut, but what I've got
Is in no can, no other human
But I do get lonely, scared I'm phony
As

The lights of the cars go by in a stream
Seems like I stand pretty much unseen
But I open my eyes and beams
Come out

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see
Score rise up
Angels play
Let my loneliness get blown away

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see

Song of the Day 46!!!

I found this gem quite a while back and finally realized to put it up on here. Its from English artist Mark Owen. This is probably the best love song ever. It screws all that damn fancy romance movie love and talks about real love. The song is called "Makin' Out" and I hope you enjoy it.

I'll be the one who brings you coffee when you can't get up
I'll be the one who turns the light out when you go to sleep
I'll be the one who turns your stomach into something else and you say
Shut up, shut up, every time I say

I'll be the one who takes your coat off, one to take the blame
I'll be the one you call your lover, every now and then
You'll be the one who keeps me sober, one to keep me sane and you say
Shut up, shut up, every time I say it

And I'd cut my fingers to the bone,
And I'd split my sides in for you

Tonight, we throw ourselves away
And we make it every time
When I thought I was ok
You said I was alright
As the night comes crashing down
We catch ourselves a line
Yeah we're only makin' out
If we make it out alright

I'll be the one who stands beside you in the photograph
I'll be the one that's in your water when you want me there
I'll be the one you're falling over every time you laugh and you say
Shut up, shut up, every time I say

I'll be the one who keeps you guessing, who swears a lot
I'll be the one that let your colour in the white wash
You'll be the one that knocks the man out I was beating up and you say
Shut up, shut up, every time I say it

And you cut my face, I told you so
I'd tear my eyes out for you

Tonight, we throw ourselves away
And we make it every time
When I thought I was ok
You said I was alright
As the night comes crashing down
We catch ourselves a line
Yeah we're only makin' out
If we make it out alright

And I'd cut my fingers to the bone,
And I'd split my sides in for you

Tonight, we throw ourselves away
And we make it every time
When I thought I was ok
You said I was alright
As the night comes crashing down
We catch ourselves a line
Yeah we're only makin' out
If we make it out all right

and if you feel so inclined, here is a wonderful light cover of this song done by the great Pomplamoose.

Song of the Day 45!!!

WOW! I bet you werent expecting a 3rd one were you! Well, whats done is done. This is the last one today, I swear. This one is by Vampire Weekend and the song is called "Giving Up The Gun". Not only is the song super addictive, but the video is great too. What other video mixes Jake Gyllenhaal, RZA from Wu tang, Lil' Jon, and a Jonas Brother? I mean, seriously! Enjoy it!

Your sword’s grown old and rusty
Burnt beneath the rising sun
It’s locked up like a trophy
Forgetting all the things it’s done

And though it’s been a long time
You’re right back where you started from
I see it in your eyes
That now you’re giving up the gun

When I was 17
I had wrists like steel
And I felt complete

And now my body fades
Behind a brass charade
And I’m obsolete

But if the chance remained
To see those better days
I’d cut the cannons down

My ears are blown to bits
From all the rifle hits
But I still crave that sound

CHORUS

I heard you play guitar
Down at a seedy bar
Where skinheads used to fight

Your Tokugawa smile
And your garbage style
Used to save the night

You felt the coming wave
Told me we’d all be brave
You said you wouldn’t flinch

But in the years that passed
Since I saw you last
You haven’t moved an inch

CHORUS

I see you shine in your way
Go on, go on, go on

CHORUS

Song of the day 44!!!

OMG! I made another post to try and make up for the time gap! Ah! Ok. This one I actually heard on the radio a few days ago. It was the acoustic version, which is good, but the album version is great as well. The band is called "Mumford & Sons" and the song is called "Little Lion Man". I think it mixes great guitar and great vocals. I also LOOOOVE the harmonies. Harmonies always get me. *sigh* Enjoy!!!

Weep for yourself, my man,
You'll never be what is in your heart
Weep Little Lion Man,
You're not as brave as you were at the start
Rate yourself and rake yourself,
Take all the courage you have left
Wasted on fixing all the problems
That you made in your own head

But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn't I, my dear?
Didn't I, my...

Tremble for yourself, my man,
You know that you have seen this all before
Tremble Little Lion Man,
You'll never settle any of your scores
Your grace is wasted in your face,
Your boldness stands alone among the wreck
Now learn from your mother or else spend your days Biting your own neck

But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn't I, my dear? (x2)

Didn't I, my dear?

Ahhhhh......

But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn't I, my dear? (x2)

Didn't I, my dear?

Song of the Day 43!!!

Wow! I havent done one of these for a while. Maybe its because Myspace has changed so much crap and doing this on facebook is way too difficult. I think I will just post these to my blog (sotdarchive.blogspot.com) and just post that there is a new one up. What do you all say about that? James, you have the largest say in this since you are like....really cool.

Anyway, the song of the day is by a band I recently heard of. Its a blessing ( and sometimes a curse due to the replay of songs) to have an alternative station from Portland that I can listen to all the time. I heard this song and couldnt get it out of my head. It by a band called "The Big Pink" and the song is called "Dominos". I hope you enjoy it!

These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.

As soon as I love her,
It's been too long.
Talks of future with you makes me ill.
Swallow my sugar,
'Cause I needed a loan.
Let's get out and smash any dreams of love.

These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
(Dominos.)

Three words we shared,
Said you weren't only all.
Stuck with forever,
To the point of tears.
Swimming with the villa
Where we slowly drown.
Ending at never haunting melody.

These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
(Dominos.)

As soon as I love her,
It's been too long.
And I really love breaking your heart.
These silver apples will shine on,
I was wrong.
The hardest love has the coldest end.

These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
These girls fall like dominos.
Dominos.
Dominos.
