Oh Lord, am I a sucker for a good drum beat and harmonies. This song puts them together beautifully. The song is called "Two Weeks" by the band Grizzly Bear. Another plus, the video is bizarre as crap. I was whistling this song all day and knew that it should be my SOTD. So, I will shut up and let you enjoy!
Save up all the days
A routine malaise
Just like yesterday
I told you I would stay
Would you always
Maybe sometimes
Make it easy
Take your time
Think of all the ways
Momentary phase
Just like yesterday
I told you I would stay
Every time you try
Quarter half the mile
Just like yesterday
I told you I would stay
Would you always
Maybe sometimes
Make it easy
Take your time

Song of the Day 55!!!
I have a good one for you this edition. Its called "Spinning Wheel" by Blood Sweat and Tears. Oh my god, do I love this band. Or should I say the David Clayton-Thomas era. They were smart for ditching the first guy, but they were stupid for thinking anyone could replace him. His voice makes me thank whatever higher power there is that this was recorded for future generations to hear what a great singer sounds like. Plus, the brass section is kick ass! Just hear for yourself. oh, and Michael informed me recently that the song is about a Carousel (among other things popular in the late 60's). Who makes songs about that? Awesome people, that's who. Enjoy!
What goes up must come down
Spinning wheel got to go round
Talking about your troubles it's a crying sin
Catch a painted pony
Let the spinning wheel spin
You got no money and you got no home
Spinning wheel, spinning all alone
I hear you talking about your troubles and you never, never learn
Catch a painted pony
Let the spinning wheel turn
Did you find a directing sign
on the straight and narrow highway?
Would you mind a reflecting sign?
Just let it shine within your mind
And show you the colors that are real
Someone is waiting just for you
Spinning wheel is spinning true
Drop all your troubles by the river side
Catch a painted pony
On the spinning wheel ride
Someone is waiting just for you
Spinning wheel is spinning true
Drop all your troubles by the river side
Catch a painted pony
Let the spinning wheel fly
What goes up must come down
Spinning wheel got to go round
Talking about your troubles it's a crying sin
Catch a painted pony
Let the spinning wheel spin
You got no money and you got no home
Spinning wheel, spinning all alone
I hear you talking about your troubles and you never, never learn
Catch a painted pony
Let the spinning wheel turn
Did you find a directing sign
on the straight and narrow highway?
Would you mind a reflecting sign?
Just let it shine within your mind
And show you the colors that are real

Spinning wheel is spinning true
Drop all your troubles by the river side
Catch a painted pony
On the spinning wheel ride
Someone is waiting just for you
Spinning wheel is spinning true
Drop all your troubles by the river side
Catch a painted pony

Song of the Day 54!!!
So, I have had this one sitting on my "Probable" list for a while now and I think its time to break it out. I heard of the New Pornographers quite a few years ago, but didnt really listen to them until about 4 years ago. The video today is a recent video, but this song and video are freaking awesome. I like the fake trailer with Paul Rudd and Bill Hader. The song is "Moves" and lets see if you can recognize any actors/comedians/musicians that are portraying the band and the random cameos. I'll give you two... the 32nd SOTD artist, Ted Leo, is dressed in drag and the drummer for the 52nd SOTD band Superchunk has the lead role in a nice ginger wig. Gotta love that! Enjoy!
I believe
You've had something that's mine
All this time
Slow to singalong crawl
Fork it over
I live among
The alarms, where I trip
Where they sing
Slow to singalong crawl
They come over
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Up the hill
Goes the time, rides the beat
Of my step
Slow to singalong crawl
Undiscovered
And all the years
At quarter speed, haloed and
Trembling clean
Slow to singalong crawl
Turning over
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Slow down, ladies
Slow down now
These things get louder
These things get louder
The live alarms
And your true villain love
Are kept at bay
Slow to singalong crawl
Like you wrote it
Will the beams
Be broke and crossed, motion sense
It's our heat
Slow to singalong crawl
It's not over
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Slow down, ladies
Slow down now
These things get louder
These things get louder
Slow to singalong crawl
Slow to singalong crawl
You will find moves
I believe
You've had something that's mine
All this time
Slow to singalong crawl
Fork it over
I live among
The alarms, where I trip
Where they sing
Slow to singalong crawl
They come over
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Up the hill
Goes the time, rides the beat
Of my step
Slow to singalong crawl
Undiscovered
And all the years
At quarter speed, haloed and
Trembling clean
Slow to singalong crawl
Turning over
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Slow down, ladies
Slow down now

Song of the Day 53!!!
This band I very recently heard about and I am in love with them. They are called Bombay Bicycle Club and the song that introduced me is number 53. Its called "Always Like This". I have listened to this on my Zune the last couple of nights and its a very soothing and dreamy, yet complicated song. I enjoy the video as well. Very different. They all seem so young too! Just watch! Enjoy!
Oh she can wait,
For what I can give
She knows what I am but
She won’t believe me
Is it all ok?
Will I come off the lightest?
I can’t believe it
It’s always like this
Kept it at bay
Yes you kept your words
There on your mouth
But it’s not what I heard
If I follow the light
That I deem the brightest
I won’t believe it
It’s always like this
I’m not whole
I’m not whole
You waste it all
[Repeat]
I’m not whole
Oh you can wait
For what I can give
You know what I am
So you know how I live
Try to look proud
But you’re not in the slightest
Its happening now
And it’s always been like this
I’m not whole
I’m not whole
You waste it all
[Repeat]
I’m not whole
Oh she can wait,
For what I can give
She knows what I am but
She won’t believe me
Is it all ok?
Will I come off the lightest?
I can’t believe it
It’s always like this
Kept it at bay
Yes you kept your words
There on your mouth
But it’s not what I heard
If I follow the light
That I deem the brightest
I won’t believe it
It’s always like this
I’m not whole
I’m not whole
You waste it all
[Repeat]
I’m not whole
Oh you can wait
For what I can give
You know what I am
So you know how I live
Try to look proud
But you’re not in the slightest
Its happening now
And it’s always been like this
I’m not whole
I’m not whole
You waste it all
[Repeat]
I’m not whole

Song of the Day 52!!!
Happy Valentines Day! Just wanted to get that out. Nothing Valentines-y about this video. This editions band is Superchunk, a band I have been listening got for quite a while now. So much so, I can name the band as soon as one of their songs start on my Zune. They are a great band that has earned their place. The song I chose is one of their latest songs "Digging for Something". Its so damn catchy! Enjoy!
Update: Congrats to Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan's Merge Records from having one of their artists get Album of the Year at the Grammys.
ANOTHER UPDATE: This video is watchable in YouTube. I have no idea what this whole "not available in your country" thing is. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I hear there's a classic mess out on Old 86,
a ride out there could be the thing to get us fixed
I left a shadow there last month stuck in the ground
could still be around
and we laughed when the paddle boat sank
we were dancing on the propane tank
everybody in the half-light out on the lawn
they were kicking up dust 'til they were gone
oh oh oh, they were digging for something
who's the shadow now? the party moved inside
I don't know how to dance this slow but I can try
one funny thing, I claimed to know the host
yeah but I lied
let's go you early riser
and we laughed when the paddle boat sank
we were dancing on the propane tank
everybody in the half-light down at the pond
they were sinking in mud 'til they were gone
oh oh oh, they were digging for something
it's just getting dark and you're waking up
waking up, waking up
it's just getting dark and you're waking up
waking up, waking up
oh oh oh, they were digging for something

Song of the Day 51!!!
You may or may not have heard of Elliott Smith, but I suggest you find him out. I'm not going to be all hipster and say that I liked him before he got all famous, or even before his death. He has a wonderful sound coupled with wonderful lyrics making. My favorite song by him "waltz#2" did not have a video, but this one "Baby Britain" is fantastic as well. Close to having to choose your favorite child. Anywho, enjoy!
Baby Britain feels the best
Floating over a sea of vodka
Separated from the rest
Fights problems with bigger problems
Sees the ocean fall and rise
Counts the waves that somehow didn't hit her
Water pourning from her eyes
Alcohol again, very bitter
For someone half as smart, you'd be a work of art
You put yourself apart
And I can't help until you start
We knocked another couple back
The dead soldiers lined up on the table
Still prepared for an attack
They didn't know they'd been disabled
Felt a wave, a rush of blood,
You won't be happy 'til the bottle's broken
You're out swimming in the flood
You kept back, you kept unspoken
For someone half as smart, you'd be a work of art
You put yourself apart
And I can't help you until you start
You've got a look in your eye when you're saying goodbye
Like you want to say hi
The light was on but it was dim
Revolver's been turned over
And now it's ready once again
The radio is playing Crimson and Clover
London Bridge is safe and sound
No matter what you keep repeating
Nothing's gonna drag me down
To a death that's not worth cheating
For someone half as smart, you'd be a work of art
You put yourself apart
And I can't help until you start
For someone half as smart, you'd be a work of art
You put yourself apart
Baby Britain feels the best
Floating over a sea of vodka

Song of the Day 50!!! (!!)
Wow. 50. That's not a lot considering how long I have been at this. I am hoping to change that and update this as much as possible. Anywho, I was looking through the list of past Songs of the Day to think of a song from an artist that hasn't been showcased but also is one of my favorites. I looked down the list and realized one of my top 5 favorite bands wasn't there....MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK! I absolutely love this band and have for years. I have all their albums, 4 shirts, tour DVD, and the $90 special edition of their latest album. How in the HELL aren't they on here? I honestly have no idea, but there is no time like the special 50th edition to introduce them to the list. The video I have chosen is off of their latest album. The song is called "Disappear". I chose a newer video over their older ones because I frankly couldn't decide which one I liked more. I will definitely put them on the list in the future though. In the mean time, ENJOY!
To the deep end, to the heart line
Hold it straight together, man
Hold it straight together, if you can
Little fevers wrapped in dedication
All strung out on novelty
Collapse yourself and try to comprehend
An angry island, a bitter bee sting
Severing each artery
To free the self and fix the in-betweens
It's isolation, mark the earth around you
Guess who's on the waiting list?
I'll let you in on something secret
I can disappear
Any time I want to, time I feel you
Shovel through my skin
I am with you til the end
First you breathe out, then you have to breathe in
Lash yourself repeatedly
Until it sticks, until it sticks
Under the eyelids, carry on cadaver
Festering interiors
All hollow breach and vapor silhouette
Need medication, more medication
Coursing through your interstates
All mad and great, confused and counterfeit
Kamikaze, sear the blood inside me
Guess who's got it figured out?
I'll let you in on something secret
I can disappear
Anytime I want to, time I feel you
Shovel through my skin
I am with you til the end
And I can decompose
When it suits me, I accelerate it
Wicked on all fours,
I surrender to the storm
You'll never know how it feels
You'll never know how it feels
Can you feel it?
Can you feel it?
I can disappear
Anytime I want to, time I feel you
Shovel through my skin
I am with you til the end
And I can decompose
When it suits me, I accelerate it
Wicked on all fours,
I surrender to the storm
And I can disappear
Anytime I want to, time I feel you
Shovel through my skin
I am with you til the end
I am with you til the end
