Flashback: SOTD 24!!!

I know Muse is a bit of a big thing now, but there were very few of us that really liked them in the early days. I am included in that group. I would show nearly anyone I knew about Muse and their unique sound. This flashback is a song of theirs called "Plug In Baby". If you haven't heard their early stuff, be prepared to be blown away. Enjoy!!!

I've exposed your lies, baby
The underneaths no big surprise
Now it's time for changing
And cleansing everything
To forget your love

My plug in baby
Crucifies my enemies
When I'm tired of giving
My plug in baby
In unbroken virgin realities
Is tired of living

Don't confuse
Baby you're gonna lose
Your own game
Change me
Replace the envying
To forget your love

My plug in baby
Crucifies my enemies
When I'm tired of giving
My plug in baby
In unbroken virgin realities
I'm tired of living

And I've seen your loving
But mine is gone
And I've been in trouble

Song of the Day 82!!!

Ah, The Spinto Band. One of the few bands I have seen live and for good reason. Not only is the music good, but they are wonderful showmen. I highly suggest seeing them if you can. This editions song of the day is by them and the song is called "Did I Tell You". It always gets stuck in my head and I hope it gets stuck in yours. Just sit back and enjoy the video!

Let me please restate things for which I am thankful
My father, my mother, my family essential
The fact that theres water on top of this planet
The opportunity for me to walk in it
Since it's a new year there's a lot in general
And the ability to tell you what I want to
Find me a gift that's through my closest acquaintance
That kid has so many things
They know who this one is

And I wish that they did
So I could stay with them

Did I tell you I dont think this will work out
That I love you but Im wanting something else
Something close to me that I cannot forget
Something far away that Id like to admit

Id like to end it with amusing cliche
Saying on phone call that its not you, its me
Then I could hang up and just put you away
In some music box that the Swiss army plays
Since its a holiday, Ill leave you alone
Dial six numbers and then hang up the phone
A good excuse for me to once more postpone
Because you kept me here by ways I do not know

And I wish that you could be
So it would stop me from asking
But lend me your ear, dear

Did I tell you I dont think this will work out
That I love you but Im wanting something else
Something close to me that I cannot forget
Something far away that Id like to admit
Let me tell you that they're coming to work me now
Did I tell you I dont think this will work out
That I love you but Im wanting something else
Something close to me that I cannot forget
Something far away that Id like to admit

Flashback: SOTD 23!!!

We're back doing Flashbacks. I figured I needed to finish these since there are only 4 left. I cant believe I started this blog on SOTD 27. How time flies.

Anyway, this edition was a pretty popular song back in 2008. I'm sure you haven't heard it for a while (unless your a Beer and Board Games fan). It's by The Ting Tings and it's called "That's Not My Name". So I will just leave it here for you to enjoy.

)

Four letter word just to get me along
It's a difficulty and I'm biting on my tongue and uh
I keep stalling, and keeping me together
People around gotta find something to say now

Holding back, everyday the same
Don't wanna be a loner
Listen to me, oh no, I never say anything at all
But with nothing to consider they forget my name, ame, ame

They call me girl
They call me Stacey
They call me her
They call me Jane

That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name

They call me quiet girl
But I'm a riot yeah
Maybe Joleisa
Always the same

That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name

I miss the catch if they throw me the ball
I'm the last kid standing up against the wall
Keep up, falling, these heels they keep me boring
Getting glammed up and sitting on the fence now

So alone all the time at night
Lock myself away, listen to me, I'm not
Although I'm dressed up, out and all with
Everything considered they forget my name, ame, ame

They call me girl
They call me Stacey
They call me her
They call me Jane

That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name

They call me quiet girl
But I'm a riot yeah
Maybe Joleisa
Always the same

That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name

Are you calling me darling?
Are you calling me bird?
They call me girl
(Are you calling me darling?)
They call me Stacey
They call me her
They call me Jane

That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name

They call me quiet girl
(Are you calling me bird?)
But I'm a riot yeah
Maybe Joleisa
Always the same

That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name

Song of the Day 81!!!

I think I am actually getting this done on time. Let's hope it stays that way. I plan on finishing up the flashbacks soon as well.

The band today is one I have known since high school. They are called "We Are Scientists" and the song is called "Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt". I tend to like 3 piece bands like this one because they tend to have to be more creative (not the case with some bands). These guys balance the music so well. Not one instrument is the key player of any of their songs. They all mesh together and still get some highlights. So sit back and enjoy!!!

The day, you move, I'm probably gonna explode
It's true, I'm probably gonna explo-oh-oh-oh-oooh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-ooh
You'll pray, for proof, I'm probably makin' this up
It's true, I'm probably makin' this u-uh-uh-uh-ooh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-ooh
Because...

My body is your body
I won't tell anybody
If you wanna use my body
Go for it, yeah
My body is your body
I won't tell anybody
If you wanna use my body
Go for it, yeah
Go for it, yeah

If no-one moves, then nobody's gonna get hurt
Don't move, 'cause nobody wants to get hu-uh-uh-uh-ooh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-ooh
We'll pray, for proof, I'm probably makin' this up
It's true, I'm probably makin' this u-uh-uh-uh-ooh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-ooh
Because...

My body is your body
I won't tell anybody
If you wanna use my body
Go for it, yeah
My body is your body
I won't tell anybody
If you wanna use my body
Go for it, yeah
Go for it, yeah

Because...

My body is your body
I won't tell anybody
If you wanna use my body
Go for it, yeah
My body is your body
I'm not just anybody
If you wanna use my body
Go for it, yeah
Go for it, yeah

Michael's Sidetracks #13

One of the things I like about doing this blog, is going back to the roots of an established band to show why they were cool in the first place.  Many groups are known for some crap that is pushed on the public, and is not representative of the artists great work.

Case in point, The Bangles.

When someone thinks of the Bangles, they immediately think of such soft fare as, "Manic Monday" and Walk like an Egyptian" (ugh, I think I vomited in my mouth a little).  What is not known, is that the Bangles themselves, HATED the direction the record company was forcing upon them.  It also lead to their eventual break-up.   What isn't known as well, was they were at the start, a fantastic power pop band.  I highly recommend their album, "All Over the Place".

So, lets look at the REAL Bangles, back in 1982, when they were known as "the Bangs" on a local label EP and soon, the incredible IRS records (Independent Record Syndicate, home of such great stuff like the Police, and R.E.M.). This is their first track off their debut record. I also recommend "Hero Takes A Fall" if you want an equally good song, but in the traditional MTV format (yes it's a bit cheesy).

Band:  The Bangles (The Bangs)
Song:  The Real World (1982)

Got to tell you
It seems so very hard to say
And you know that the words are there, my love

When I first saw you
Didn't notice it that day
Now you're the one I'm thinking of

Oh, you never bring me down
Inside it's such a change, oh yeah (oh yeah)
If I was insecure
That was yesterday and now I'm sure
Oh so sure (oh so sure)

When I was a little girl
I wanted everything ideal
Yeah, and a love I could depend on

This is the real world
And I believe our love is real
And it's the only thing I'm counting on

Oh, you never bring me down
Inside it's such a change, oh yeah (oh yeah)
If I was insecure
That was yesterday and now I'm sure
Oh so sure

Oh, you never bring me down
Inside it's such a change, oh yeah (oh yeah)
If I was insecure
That was yesterday and now I'm sure
Oh so sure

This is the real world
I really want to be a girl

This is the real world (real world)
I really want to be a girl

This is the real world (real world)
I really want to be a girl

Song of the Day 80!!!

Hey all! Sorry this has taken so long to write. I have been uber busy and I was giving leeway to someone *cough cough* to put their videos up. I guess I just have to run a tighter ship.

Anyway, the song for this edition of SOTD is from a band called Junior Boys and the song is called "In The Morning.". As you may know, I am a nut for electronic sounds and creative uses of creative sounds. This is a perfect representation of why I love it. Sit back and enjoy!!!

Too young

Too young, Oh

Girl the night's not over
We're not getting older
They can chase forever
'Cause in the morning there's a million names to choose from
You don't care just take one
Leave a place to rest on
Because you're too young

Yeah you're too young
Oh you're too young
You're too young

Too young, Oh
Too young, Uh

There goes another million,
Just wrap it up we own it
This night's a skill we hone it
And in the morning would you tell me that it's over?
You think that you'd do better
To stick with someone older
Because we're too young

Oh, too young

Too young
Yeah, we're too young in the morning.
We're too young
We're too young in the morning.

Song of the Day 79!!!

Sorry it has been a month. Things have been busy in my house and will continue to be, but I will try to make more time for this. Anyway, this edition is close to me personally. Once you see and hear it, you should be able to figure it out. And if you know me personally, this shouldn't be a surprise. Besides the content of the song, it is such a catchy song. Michael showed me this band a long time ago and I never really sat down and listened to them recently and I am glad I am. So, sit back and enjoy!!!

Dear God, hope you get the letter and
I pray you can make it better down here
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
But all the people that you made in your image
See them starving on their feet
'Cause they don't get enough to eat from God
I can't believe in you

Dear God, sorry to disturb you but
I feel that I should be heard loud and clear
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
And all the people that you made in your image
See them fighting in the street
'Cause they can't make opinions meet about God
I can't believe in you

Did you make disease and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the Devil too!

Dear God don't know if you noticed but
Your name is on a lot of quotes in this book
And us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look
And all the people that you made in your image
Still believing that junk is true
Well I know it ain't, and so do you
Dear God
I can't believe in
I don't believe in

I won't believe in heaven or hell
No saints, no sinners, no devil as well
No pearly gates, no thorny crown
You're always letting us humans down
The wars you bring, the babes you drown
Those lost at sea and never found
And it's the same the whole world 'round
The hurt I see helps to compound
The Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Is just somebody's unholy hoax
And if you're up there you'll perceive
That my heart's here upon my sleeve
If there's one thing I don't believe in

It's you
Dear God
